My 2 Week Malaysia Itinerary June 21, 2016 / Malaysia. A country I had a total love affair with. It wasn’t hard to fall for this country with so much culture. Malaysia is made up of a mix of religions, races, cuisines, and landscapes but smiling faces abound everywhere. I had 13 days to spend in Malaysia {including traveling to and from}. While I would have loved to spend more time there, I was happy with the destinations I chose. Each of the four destinations I explored was entirely different from the next. It kept the trip new and exciting every day. So without further adieu, here is my 2 week Malaysia itinerary: Kuala Lumpur: 1 Night Day 1: I arrived in Kuala Lumpur in the evening. I was staying in Bricksfield so I grabbed some amazing Indian street food and then went to bed. Cameron Highlands: 2 Nights/2 Days Day 2: I took an 8:30am bus from Kuala Lumpur to the Cameron Highlands. It was an easy drive that took just under 4 hours. I had a delicious lunch at Curry House in Tanah Rata {one of two main towns in the Cameron Highlands} and spent the afternoon drinking tea at Cameron Valley Tea House. Day 3: I took a half day tour of Cameron Highlands, which included going to the top of the tallest mountain, Gunung Brinchang, a walk through the Mossy Forest, a visit to BOH Sungai Palas Tea Plantation, and a stop at the Big Red Strawberry Farm. George Town, Penang: 4 Nights/4 Days Day 4: I woke early and took an 8am bus from Cameron Highlands to Penang. I stayed in George Town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I spent the day wandering the streets of George Town. Day 5: I began my day taking the tram to the top of Penang Hill for gorgeous views of the island. Then I went back to George Town to find all the amazing street art hiding on the city’s walls. Day 6: After two days exploring George Town, I decided to have a relaxing beach day at Batu Ferringi. Day 7: I spent one more day exploring George Town, which included seeing the oldest mosque in George Town, Masjid Kepitan Kling, and walking along the jetties. That evening I took a street food tour in George Town with Food Tour Malaysia. Perhentian Islands: 3 Nights/3 Days Day 8: I took an early flight from Penang to Kota Bharu. From Kota Bharu, it was an hour taxi ride and a 30-minute ferry ride to Perhentian Kecil. The afternoon was spent lying around Long Beach and enjoying the gorgeous blue water. Day 9: Scuba diving day! I dove at Temple of the Sea and Romantic Beach with Ombak Dive Resort. Day 10: Another beautiful beach day at Coral Bay! Kuala Lumpur: 2 Nights/2 Days Day 11: To get to Kuala Lumpur, I took the 8am ferry from Perhentian Kecil, an hour taxi back to the Kota Bharu Airport and lastly, an hours flight to KL. I checked into my lovely Club Lounge room at Traders Hotel in Kuala Lumpur and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon before drinks at SkyBar in Traders Hotel that evening. Day 12: Today was my one and only day to really explore Kuala Lumpur. I began my day discovering the Batu Caves and running from these little guys. Then I had lunch at Tang City Food Court in China Town before shopping for a fake purse {which looks very real!} on Pedaling Street. Day 13 marked the end of my Malaysia trip! It was a fabulous trip but it had to come to an end. I flew from Kuala Lumpur to Hanoi. Booking Transport in Malaysia Buses: The buses in Malaysia are probably the nicest buses I have ever seen! They are full air-conditioned, recline and you’ll have plenty of leg room. Plus the seats are unusually wide for a bus! You can book your bus tickets here and whenever you get off your bus, you’ll be dropped off at an office where you can buy a bus ticket for your next journey. Flights: Flights within Malaysia are unbelievably cheap. You can fly with Firefly, AirAsia or Malindo Air. My Malaysia Itinerary… was perfectly timed. I never felt rushed, was able to relax a few days and also did plenty of exploring. I’ve learned through my travels that I prefer slow travel over jamming a lot into a small amount of time. I debated adding Langkawi after Penang but didn’t want to cut down time anywhere. On my next trip to Malaysia {who knows when!} I’d love to visit Teman Negara, Palau Kapas, Palau Tioman and Melaka. Sarah Attaway says July 29, 2016 at 7:50 pm Hi Harish! I am so glad you have found this helpful and that you are using it for your upcoming trip! Unfortunately, I do not know the total cost of my trip. I generally have a daily budget in mind of $100 USD and as long as I am staying within that, then I feel good about it. I know that there are always a few days where I end up spending more {for instance, the day I took the food tour in Penang!}. But in the end, I come under budget most days so it evens out! My cheapest accommodation was $8USD because I was there just for one night, arriving late at night and leaving early the next morning. However, most places I stayed were between $45-$80/night. Food in Malaysia is sooo cheap and whenever I can, I enjoy walking around a city or taking public transportation between it’s cheaper and I get to see more of the destination that way. I’m sorry I can’t share the total cost since I don’t document every charge and take it day-by-day. You can definitely do Malaysia at a higher or lower budget than me as well. That’s whats so great about Asia, there’s something for everyone. Enjoy your trip! Sarah
