Hotel Life: COMO Hotels in Ubud, Bali January 17, 2018 / Ubud, Bali is such a magical place. And as such, it’s a must on any Bali itinerary. I visited Ubud the very first time I was in Bali in July 2016 as one of my last Southeast Asian destinations before returning home from my year as an expat in Vietnam. When I had the opportunity to go back to explore Bali on a work trip, I jumped at the chance and was thrilled I’d be returning. Since it is a such a popular Balinese destination for travelers, it should come as no surprise that there are plenty of hotels to choose from. I have my favorites after my visit – of course every client is different, so one person may love hotel A, while another client loves hotel B. While I can count a handful of Ubud hotels I love for clients, two of my favorite hotels are the COMO hotels in Ubud, Bali. There are two COMO Hotels in Ubud but before I fill you in on both, I want to gush on the COMO brand. There are a series of COMO Hotels around the world – they all focus on wellness in terms of healthy, cuisine and experiences. I also love that they feel like the destination you are visiting so you can really immerse yourself where you are. Although the two COMO Hotels in Ubud center around wellness, they are so very different. The first, COMO Uma Ubud, is very close to Ubud town so it’s great for travelers who want to be able to walk out the door and have easy access to the Ubud market, restaurants, shopping and temples. There’s a fantastic yoga pavilion with views into the jungle valley. Plus, the decor is whites, greys and light woods, which to me is total goals. The grounds are centered around a gorgeous pool with greenery and landscaping matching the surrounding jungles. I’d love to enjoy a day by the pool, especially since Bali is a hot, humid and tropical destination year round. COMO Uma is very different from the second COMO Hotel in Ubud. COMO Shambala Estate is about 35 minutes from the center of Ubud town so it feels more secluded and remote. This also allows the hotel to sprawl across more land so even when the hotel is at full capacity, guests won’t feel crowded. The wellness competent at COMO Shambala is more in-depth than at COMO Uma. If clients choose to pay a rate that includes their wellness program, they will get a comprehensive one-on-one session at the beginning of their stay to create a plan for their trip to reach a certain goal – each guest’s wellness experience will be different from another because it is all customized. The wellness consultant curates a program for the stay, whether it’s a short 3-day stay or a week-long stay, and helps each guest accomplish that goal – diet, yoga and exercise, mindfulness, etc. The accommodations at Shambala are also very unique. There are 5 compounds each dedicated and decorated to fit a specific element – earth, wind, fire, wood and metal. Each compound has a combination of rooms and suites that share a pool and outdoor terrace area. I really loved both COMO Uma Ubud and COMO Shambala Estate – but they provide different experiences. Interested if either of the hotels are right for you? I’d love to help you plan your dream Bali trip. Aside from Ubud, I spent time in northwest Bali and in the south at the beach in Seminyak and Uluwatu. There’s so much to discover in Bali!
